The Apache Junction City Council will meet on Monday, February 4 for a work session and on Tuesday, February 5 for their regular session.
Monday’s agenda includes interviews with eight applicants for one vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Those applying for a seat are Dirk Begeman, Richard Cantwell, Jim Duncan, Dave Hantzsche, Mehmood Mohiuddin, Robert Rauschenbach, Colleen Shipman and Dave Waldron. Council may make an appointment for the commission at the regular meeting on February 5.
Ken Strobeck, Executive Director of League of Arizona Cities and Towns and city staff will give a presentation on civility in communication, social media and open meeting law on Monday night. With regard to public discussions, they propose that public officials treat all responses on social media as if they were happening in front of an audience, and officials are responsible for what they say online. Using good judgment and being respectful, while reflecting their organization’s core values will be discussed.
There will also be a presentation and discussion on a code of conduct applicable to the council, board and commission members.
The council will also have a discussion on vending machine services assignment from VIP Vending, LLC, to West Valley Vending, Inc. for the remainder of the original agreement. The agreement will be in effect for one year, with automatic renewals not to exceed eight years. Council may approve the assignment in the consent agenda action on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
City Council meetings are open to the public and held in chambers at 300 E. Superstition Blvd. in Apache Junction. The meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. Complete agendas and supporting materials are available at https://apachejunction.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx.
