Donations to be collected through June 20 at Mountain View and Superstition Funeral Homes
Kicking off on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018, and continuing through Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Mountain View Funeral Home in Mesa and Superstition Cremation and Funeral Services in Apache Junction will be collecting personal hygiene items for a Homeless Veterans Toiletries Drive. The endeavor is a part of the 20th Annual Memorial Day Program at Mountain Vista; an extra effort that Marketing Coordinator Hilary Samples hopes to continue each year.
“The blanket drive we coordinated earlier this year for homeless veterans received an overwhelming response,” said Samples. “It tapped into something this community really cares about, and we want to continue to support that.”
Drop off locations for the hygiene items are:
Mountain View Funeral Home
7900 E. Main St, Mesa M-F – 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sat – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Superstition Cremation & Funeral Services
398 E. Old West Hwy, Apache Junction
M-F – 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Suggested donations include: shampoo, conditioner, soap, mouthwash, razors, lotion, band-aids, combs, brushes, Kleenex, shaving cream, Q-tips, floss, deodorant and toothbrushes.
In addition to donations of hygiene products, volunteers are needed to help separate the items and make ditty bags for the intended recipients. Volunteers will meet on Thursday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Apache Junction location (Superstition Cremation and Funeral Services) to put the bags together.
Ditty bags will be distributed through the Veterans Association at Dolce Vita. The volunteer group of residents has been providing hygiene items to homeless and needy veterans in Phoenix and Apache Junction since 2006.
