Seeks nonperishable donations
Two Apache Junction residents with family ties to coastal North Carolina have taken up the challenge to help with relief to victims of Hurricane Florence.
Danielle Greene, VFW Post 7968 Auxiliary president, and her husband Daniel, who is the Post’s Commander, are organizing a delivery of non-perishable items and willing hands to help with disaster relief. The couple are calling on the community to pitch in with donations of goods and traveling funds.
“We are taking any nonperishable items in a truck and trailer and bringing them to NC,” Danielle stated in an email. “We are leaving September 24th.”
She said that they have received permission from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Along with the supplies, they are also bringing expertise: “We are CPR, AED, First Aid trained and registered volunteers with the Red Cross, so we are able to get in there quick,” Ms. Greene said. “We are staying 3 days to help with relief.”
Those wishing to send along contributions can drop off the donations at VFW Post #7968, 250 S. Phelps Dr. in Apache Junction, or Lost Dutchman Realty, 1075 S. Idaho Rd. in Apache Junction.
A non-profit charity fundraiser that accepts monetary donations for traveling expenses has been established on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1814438522009653/
Ms. Greene said that they are planning to record and document their efforts. “Most of my husband’s family will be getting hit directly, and I have two close family friends who will be as well, so we feel the need to help, and we need the help of our Apache Junction residents to come together and make this happen.”
