Three Apache Junction residents were arrested after an apparent lovers’ quarrel turned violent and resulted in a stabbing and a shooting.
According to Apache Junction Police Department (AJPD) Jessie Wirries (29) is accused of unlawfully entering the home of his estranged wife, Heather Wirries (27) in the early hours of March 9.
Mr. Wirries found his wife with Cory Rodriquez (28) at the home on Roundup St. and then left the house. Jessie spoke to Cory’s girlfriend, Mandie Rodriguez (29) about the encounter with Heather and Cory. Mandie Rodriguez and her sister Frances Rodriguez (31) went to see Cory to confront him.
Frances allegedly stabbed Cory in the side with a pocket knife before she and Mandie left in a white Dodge pickup truck. Police dispatchers received a call identifying the truck, and AJPD performed a high-risk traffic stop and detained the three persons riding inside.
After interviewing the victim, AJPD officers suspected that Mandie and Frances Rodriguez unlawfully entered the home on Roundup, and one of the women stabbed Cory Rodriquez. They were arrested for aggravated assault and criminal trespass.
Cory was transported to a local hospital, treated and released for a minor injury.
Two days later, on March 11 at about 2:23 a.m., AJPD responded to a shooting report at the same house on Roundup St.
Officials say that Jesse Wirries again unlawfully entered the home of Heather Wirries, where he again found her with Cory Rodriquez.
Jesse Wirries allegedly fired a shotgun, striking Heather and Cory with a single round. Cory was struck in the neck and shoulder and taken to a nearby hospital. Heather was struck in the face by birdshot pellets and was also hospitalized.
According to AJPD, officers got a search warrant and recovered the firearm used in the assault. Officials reported that there were several children in the home at the time of the incident, but none of the children were injured. Jessie Wirries was booked into the Pinal County Jail, and charges were filed for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and several counts of Child Endangerment. He is being held on $1 million bond.
