A fatal accident involving a motorcycle rider and a school bus occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21 in the 400 Block of S. Phelps Dr. in Apache Junction.
According to officials from Apache Junction Police Department (AJPD), Clinton Pennington (36)collided with an Apache Junction Unified School District (AJUSD) bus that was making a left turn on its regular morning route.
Officials with AJPD said that the victim was pinned beneath the bus and was not breathing when they arrived. Paramedics determined the victim had expired and no effort was made to resuscitate him.
The bus was carrying about 10 children in addition to the bus driver.
All were examined by paramedics at the scene, and none were injured in the accident. Fire officials said that, under school district supervision, the children were transferred to another bus and taken to school.
A portion of S. Phelps drive was closed for several hours while AJPD conducted an investigation.
AJUSD sent notices to parents concerning the accident and recommended counseling to those involved.
