Imagine Prep-Superstition concluded its boys basketball regular season in winning fashion on Feb. 9, as the Panthers upended American Leadership Academy-Ironwood 83-47.

The win gives IPS a 12-4 league record, trailing second place EVAC by a half-game in the CAA Division III, Region 1 standings. Canyon State Academy is in first place at 12-2.

Dallas Pina enjoyed a big night for the Panthers, scoring 29 points – including 5-of-13 from behind the arc and 6-of-7 free throws. Pina also pulled down 11 rebounds and had seven assists and five steals.

Tavares Broady scored 19 points for IPS, followed by Isiah Broady with 12, Jorge Garcia with eight and Anthony Lerma with seven. Tavares also had nine rebounds and four assists, and Garcia had six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The Panthers opened the week with a 69-37 home loss on Feb. 6 to undefeated Gilbert San Tan Charter.

Imagine Prep trailed 7-6 after one quarter, but San Tan (21-0) opened the second quarter with a seven-point run and never looked back. In the second half, the closest IPS would get was 39-21 on a Tavares Broady put-back with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter.

“That’s a quality team,” Panthers Coach Travis Gordon said about the Roadrunners. “Our guys didn’t step up to the moment. We had a lot of selfish players tonight. I think it was the after effect of the last game when they played so well. They thought it was just going to happen. They forgot you have to get out there and do it.”

Dante Gonzales led the Roadrunners’ balanced attack with 17 points, followed by Jaylen Webb with 15 and Isiah Brown with 14. Gonzales also had eight of San Tan’s 34 rebounds.

Tavares Broady topped the Panther scoring with 19 points. Dallas Pina led IPS rebounders with eight.

“I hope this was a wake-up call,” Gordon said. “These are the type of teams we’re going to play in the playoffs.”

The CAA Division III boys basketball playoffs start on Friday.
