On Wednesday, July 11, the Cactus Canyon Parent Teacher Organization (with considerable community participation) is sponsoring, “Pasta with a Purpose;” a benefit dinner for the victims of a wrong-way driver crash near Holbrook on June 16 that left two dead, including the wrong-way driver, and five injured.

The van that was struck was carrying members of New Season Christian Fellowship church in Apache Junction. The driver of the van, Kayleen Candelaria, was killed. Her husband, Marc, was driving behind his wife when the crash happened. Both had been chaperones for a church camp trip to Oklahoma and were driving kids back home to Apache Junction.

The five injured passengers in Candelaria’s van were all returning campers. They were sent to a medical facility in Winslow where they were treated for multiple injuries, including broken bones, internal spleen bleeding and a brain bleed.

“Pasta with a Purpose” will be held at the Cactus Canyon Junior High cafeteria, 801 W. Southern Ave., Apache Junction, on Wednesday, July 11, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

The cost is a suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 per family. Additional donations are appreciated. All proceeds will go to the Candeleria family and the families of the five injured campers to help with expenses.
