Prospector Invitational Wrestling Tournament

Marana met Red Mountain and Maricopa squared off with Youngker in two of the many duals on Jan. 11 at the Prospector Invitational wrestling tournament, held at the AJHS gym. Host Apache Junction won three of its five opening day duals, defeating Benjamin Franklin (41-40), Copper Canyon (57-12) and Poston Butte (47-36). The Prospectors lost to Arizona Lutheran (45-36) and Red Mountain (66-18).

LIMONGELLO TAKES 1ST AT 182 IN PROSPECTOR INVITATIONAL; AJ 9TH OVERALL

Gibson Limongello, Apache Junction’s 182-pounder, earned the Prospectors’ lone individual title Saturday in the annual Prospector Invitational wrestling tournament, held at the AJHS gym.

Limongello pinned Daniel Massaden of Arizona Lutheran Academy in 1:31 to claim the 182 crown.

Three other Prospectors reached the individual mini-tournament: Kavyn Mudd was defeated 13-2 by Tyler Rounek of Chandler Perry at 120; Preston Lindstrom claimed third at 195 by beating Isak Castro of Yuma Catholic 10-4; and Ethan Wright won third place at 220, pinning Bobby Brookins of Red Mountain in 1:31.

Perry claimed the overall team title, followed by Red Mountain, San Tan Valley Poston Butte and Yuma Catholic. Apache Junction finished ninth.
